Nursing Foundation Lab

Nursing foundation lab having built up area of 1998.23 sq ft is one which makes the imagination of hospital set up, and the students can study the procedures and all the things on dummy with the help of teachers. These will help the students to reduce the stress and fear about the hospital environment.

Aim

  • To increase awareness among the students in the field of nursing to get a positive understanding between the doctor, nurse and patient in treating patient.
  • For providing practical knowledge as a demonstration in the institutional set up itself without any barrier.

Objectives

  • To Communicate effectively with patients and families and team members to maintain effective human relations.
  • To develop skill in health assessment and monitoring of patients.
  • To demonstrate basic nursing care procedures.
  • To care for patients with alterations in body functions.
  • To learn application of nursing process in the care of clients.
  • To develop skill in application of scientific principles while performing nursing care.
  • To learn about recording & reporting.
  • To demonstrate techniques of Universal precautions & Infection control measures.
  • To develop confidence and competence in caring of terminally ill patients.

Facilities

  • The lab is well furnished and well-ventilated with all the necessary equipment’s like patient beds, mattresses, bed sheets, bedside locker, linens and blankets, napkins and towels, bed cradle, cardiac table, wheel chair, stretcher, critical care unit (with O2 cylinder with flow meter, CPR dummy and Suction apparatus), different sizes procedure trays, and other instruments. And all the equipment’s are as per INC recognize and enough for each nursing courses.
  • The lab also contains the manikin of three adult male and female as well as one new born. There is one dummy of hand with visible veins which is using to study the procedure of introducing IV cannula.
  • There are many charts pertaining to nursing procedure. The models prepared by the students are kept in the lab like emergency tray, Dialysis machine.

Activities

  • The students are doing all basic nursing procedures like bed bath, CPR, IV cannula insertion, IV therapy, Hair care, etc.
  • They are used to study the instruments which are used in hospitals, tray set up, maintaining aseptic technique during the procedure, etc.
  • They are allowed to issue the articles for the procedure. This all activities are done for encouraging the students to be a functional nurse.

Advance Nursing Lab


Aim

The Advance Nursing lab aims at teaching and training students the nursing advance skills necessary to provide comprehensive care for adult patients suffering from a variety of medical or surgical disorders.

Objectives

  • Providing students with basic and advanced nursing skills necessary for adult nursing care.
  • Developing students’ skills for dealing with advanced technology and equipment.
  • Facilitating transition to actual clinical settings.
  • Enhancing students understanding of the clinical skills necessary for providing comprehensive nursing care for the adult patients.
  • Enhancing teamwork and communication skills.
  • Provide hands-on learning experiences specific to course objectives as directed by the nursing curriculum.
  • Developing clinical judgment through scientific inquisition and critical thinking and problem solving.
  • Disseminate a culture of safe nursing practice by enhancing the universal standards precautions and rules of safety in practicing clinical nursing and reinforcing it’s role as an.
  • Indicator of quality in healthcare and the continuing development in evidence- based nursing practice.

Facilities

The advance nursing lab is equipped and well furnished with healthy environment of learning having built up area of 727 sq ft approximately. This lab is organized to learn advance and critical nursing care with the help of manikins and simulators, models & modules. A set up of critical unit is made which consist of manikin on which tracheotomy care, colostomy care is taught, also includes CPR manikin, Dialysis machine, Intravenous Canulation arm, Water seal drainage, Emergency crash cart, Cardiac monitor, Oxygen administration, ventilator with BIPAP set etc . The lab helps to develop the life form absolutely realistic revolutionary nursing skills through “hands on training” under continuous supervision & guidance by expert teaching faculties.

Community Health Nursing Lab


Aim

Students render comprehensive care to the individual, family and community and develop centre understanding of rural community health management.

Objectives

  • To render comprehensive care to the individual family and community.
  • To develop clinical skills in carrying out various procedures.
  • To demonstrate bag technique procedure.
  • To demonstrate home visiting skills.
  • To develop IPR with the village leaders, community and other agencies.
  • To organize, assist and conduct health camp.
  • To help students to organize; assist, conduct the school health and child health programme.

Facilities

  • The community lab is equipped and well furnished with healthy environment of learning having built up area of 900 sq. ft approximately.
  • The lab has all equipment’s for providing the basic care in term of primary health care like community bag, Maternity kit and others.
  • The lab is arranged in such a manner that the student of the nursing programme can practice the procedure and make their effective A.V aids by using various charts displayed in community health care and education programme for raising the health status of individual.
  • The college is providing all the necessary articles to student for their better understanding.

Nutrition Lab


Aim

To acquire knowledge of nutrition for maintenance of optimum health at different stages of life and its application for practice of nutrition.

Objectives

  • To describe the relationship between nutrition and health.
  • To describe the classification, functions, sources and recommended daily allowance of all Nutrients (CHO, Proteins, Fats, Vitamins, Minerals etc).
  • To describe the sources, Functions, and requirements of water and electrolytes.
  • To prepare various types of diets eg: Bland diet, fluid diet, diabetic diet, cardiac diet etc.

  • We have well-ventilated and well-furnished nutrition Lab within built area 1500 sq. ft approximately.
  • We have well equipped nutrition Lab which includes glassware articles, steel utensils, refrigerator, Mixer Grinder, Dinner Set, Dinning Table with Chair, Table mat, Gas stove, weighting machine etc.

Activities

  • To introduce students about Cookery rules and Preservation of nutrients.
  • To prepare and serve simple beverages and different types of foods.
  • To teach students about principles, methods of cooking and serving.
  • To help students to plan menu with RDA calculation for different categories of patients.

Pre-clinical Science Lab


Aim

  • Acquire knowledge of normal structure of various human body systems and understand the anatomical structure.
  • To acquire knowledge of the normal physiology of various human body.
  • To learn structure of microorganisms under microscope, learn about various culture medias, staining techniques etc.
  • To learn about automated instrumentation like autoclave, pipettes Petridish, glass slides, biomedical waste management model etc.

  • To describe the physiology of cell, tissue, membrane and glands.
  • To describe the bone formation and growth and movement of skeleton system.

Maternal And Child Health Lab


Aim

To appreciate the concepts and principles of midwifery and obstetrical nursing.

Objectives

  • To acquire knowledge and skills in reducing nursing care to normal & high-risk pregnant woman during antenatal intra-natal and postnatal periods.
  • To develops skills in managing normal and high-risk neonates and participate in family welfare programme.
  • To develop ability and skill for providing nursing care to mother and child.

Facilities

  • We have M.C.H lab, which is well ventilated and well-furnished and well equipped with built up area of 900 sq ft approximately.
  • In M.C.H lab we have the manikins like antenatal assessment dummy, per vaginal examination manikin, Delivery manikin, postnatal management manikin, OT Table, newborn baby with resuscitation kit, female manikin, obstetric and gynaecological instruments.
  • With this, models like stages of development of embryo, placenta, episiotomy suturing set, Stand Pelvis, skull etc.
  • Also, the lab contains various rolling charts, foam charts, health education Aids prepared by student.

Activities

  • To drape & position the patient for gynecological examination.
  • To provide newborn care like eye care, cord care, feeding.
  • To demonstrate resuscitation of newborn.
  • To make the students able to prepare sterile trays like perineal care tray, Caesarean section trolley, suture removal tray, forceps delivery tray, vaginal examination tray & surgical trolley.
  • To carry out antenatal assessment.
  • To learn management of first, second and third stage of normal delivery.
  • To carry out physical assessment of newborn.
  • To give baby bath.
  • To introduce students about instruments using for normal delivery, episiotomy and D & C, M.T.P.
  • To prepare posters & project related to antenatal diet, family planning, health education.

Computer Lab


Aim

To develop basic understanding of computer and its applications in nursing.

Objectives

  • To identify and define various concepts used in computer.
  • To identify application of computer in nursing.
  • To make use of Microsoft office.
  • Demonstrate use of internet and email.
  • Describe the use of hospital management system.

Facilities

  • We have a well-furnished and well-ventilated computer lab with built up area of 1500 sq ft approximately.
  • There are 25 computers in the lab.
  • Internet facility is also available in our computer lab.

Activities

  • Students are using the internet facility for reference purpose and research purpose.
  • Student improve their knowledge in hospital management system.
  • Students improve their knowledge in the application of computer in nursing.

Audio – Visual Aids Laboratory


Audio – Visual aids communicate ideas through the ears to the mind. Audio -visual aids are the best tool for making teaching effective and the best dissemination of knowledge.

Aim

To enable student in making learning experience more concrete, more realistic and more dynamic.

Objectives

  • To increase effectiveness of teaching.
  • To hold attention span of learner for the duration of instruction.
  • To learn preparation of different types of AV Aids.
  • To understand principles of effective utilisation and preservation of AV AIDS.
  • To make learning experience last longer.

Facilities

The Audio-Visual Laboratory is equipped with high-tech educational media to support the teaching-learning activities of the nursing students with a Built-up area of 600 sq ft approximately. The collection in this regard includes OHP, LCD Projector, computer, laptop, TV, Camera, Xerox machine, DVD player, Tape recorder, camera etc. In addition, this laboratory has excellent collections of charts, models, posters , different types of boards and other exhibit which can provide high-tech educational media to support the teaching-learning activities of the nursing students.

Nursing student’s hostel is a three-storied building and students are accommodated in partially furnished rooms. At the reception there is an office for warden and a visiting room, where relatives and visitors are permitted to meet their wards. Toilets and bathrooms are available on each floor. Hostel has a lawn and a ground where students can play and relax.

Objectives of the hostel are:

Lecture Halls

The lecture halls are well lighted and well ventilated. They are well equipped with green boards. Wall mounted LCD projectors with mini-PC attached are available in each class. There are 9 huge lecture halls for G.N.M., B.Sc.(N) & P.B.B.Sc (N) with built up area of 12150 sq ft approximately.

Library Facilities

The Institute has an extensive library with more than 3460 books. There is separate reading for faculty and students. The built-up area is about 3600 sq ft approximately. The college subscribes to various national and international journals. The library is open to the students from 8 am to 6.00 pm.

Auditorium Hall

A well-equipped auditorium with built up area of 3500 sq ft and seating for over 300 people serves as the venue for the regular conferences, workshops and seminars that are part of the learning process at Sindhutai Vikhe Patil College of Nursing. The Nursing College is setup with an objective of enhancing quality of education, dedicates itself to implementing continuous improvement in standards. The Auditorium is spacious, well ventilated, and furnished with advanced echo system. It also offers facilities such as LCD and OHP projectors, screens, white-boards for delivering lectures.

Faculty Room

There are 6 separate Department wise faculty room with built up area of 2400 sq ft for the teaching staff with adequate lighting and ventilation facility is available. There is adequate storage facility for keeping the documents of students.

Counselling Room

The Counselling Cell College provides personal and professional guidance to students of all the College. Personal Counselling Sessions are conducted by qualified and experienced Counsellor’s to help students resolve any kind of problems they might face during their college tenure. These are client-oriented sessions and are conducted on a one-to-one basis with each student where the Counsellor brings an utterly non-judgmental attitude to the table. Besides career-related problems, personal issues are also dealt with. Confidentiality is a legal requirement of counselling, and is strictly maintained. Thus the Counselling Cell provides a platform for students to pursue both their professional and personal goals with great self-awareness, self-esteem, understanding and a focus. It measures an built up area of 468 sq. ft approximately.

Boys Common Room

There is separate common room for boys with built up area of 1000 sq ft having adequate recreational facilities. This space has been designed to give male students a place to relax, study, have informal discussions in free time available. Daily newspapers, magazines, periodical and journals are available for leisure reading. Female students appreciate this facility a great deal.

Sport Room

The college provides sports and recreation facilities for the students with built up area of 200 sq ft approximately. The sports facilities include outdoor games like volleyball, basketball, cricket, tennis, shuttle and badminton. Indoor games like carom, chess. There is also a large playground for athletic and field events like running, javelin Etc..
